Meet Romy Rawlings

Meet DeepGreen’s founder Romy, a visionary leader dedicated to promoting sustainability and driving positive change within the built environment sector.

  • A Fellow of the Landscape Institute, I have over three decades of experience as a landscape architect. Passionate about the impact of the external environment on people from the very start of my career, I’ve worked across design, consultancy, project management, and research roles.

In more recent years, having moved away from design, I’ve held senior positions in marketing, business development, and sales within businesses of all scales , from SME to PLC. My work has taken me throughout the UK, much of Europe, and the Middle East.

  • With a strong focus on sustainable placemaking, I’ve co-created beautiful and functional landscapes of almost every type. Although I no longer design, I excel at effective communication and particularly love undertaking research and the process of writing. My book, 'Healing Gardens' and the 'Fika with Friends' webinar for Vestre are great examples of this.

My extensive professional network means I get to collaborate with many amazing professionals and, through this, drive positive change. An experienced awards judge, I've chaired and judged many industry awards – what better way can there be to celebrate the fantastic work our sector is doing?

  • Relentlessly curious (OK, a bit nosy), forward-thinking, and a firm believer in lifelong learning, my aim is to future-proof your business, leaving it stronger and more resilient.

My core values of authenticity, integrity, and collaboration inform every aspect of my work and I always seek to combine my creative thinking with a commercial mindset.

Inspiring transformative thinking and ‘giving back’ are of huge importance to me. As a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, I'm a passionate supporter of meaningful social change. I contribute to this in many ways, including mentorship, advocacy, and contributing to the charity sector through various Board appointments.

  • Beyond my professional life, I have diverse interests in psychology, horticulture (my flower of the moment is the Gloriosa lily), my ridiculous dog (Basil), and finding time for hobbies like singing. I’ve recently decided I should take up the trombone (apologies in advance to my neighbours). Some would say I also have an unusual fascination with bollards and spotting badly installed recessed inspection covers, but I know others that share my obsession, so I’m not entirely alone in this...

Let’s talk…
